if you visit the site itself it won’t work, the forum works if you visit the exact links that end with .php again we are not completely safely out of the woods yet, so exchange contacts etc too.

If you had a tab or a previous page in your history, or a specific landing page, it’s working. The main page for both KB and RU was directing to a 403 error page saying that imgbb.com and it’s sister sites are banned going forward, so any post with them will have to use a different image host or get deleted.

As far as fiction goes, it might be best practice to also upload stories on AO3, which has essentially no rules regarding written content and has a robust legal department willing to go to bat to defend against censorship. You’ll miss out on the rich communities that come from forums like this but you’ll at least have some reassurance that you aren’t going to suddenly lose years of work due to an admin fuckup.

I’m back in! As far as stories go, anything that I post on RU, I have also kept backed up on an external hard drive. IF the site should ever disappear for good, I won’t lose all my stories.

Yeah since the server is only half back, and the root directory does not lead to anything useful currently (I think some .htaccess files are deleted or not set up right anymore). So just bookmark the link that goes directly to the forum 🙂

Front page of RU is still leading to a 403, but individual links still work. KB is completely down, giving a “This website has been suspended.” statement on the landing page.

If there’s anything you wanted to save off of RU, back it up now.

Using the index.php on RU still get you in. But yeah KB is down now. We don’t know if permanently yet. Also you can save whole threads on RU by going to first page, then press the print button in top right, it makes a pure text version of the whole thread, easy to save, images and videos become urls/links. For stories I think this is the best way to preserve them, or fastest and easiest.

Thanks Vela! I confirm that KB is down for me as well. I get a 403 page that says “Fuck you” and the same in different languages, the one in French being laughably wrong. It says “te faire encule” which is like saying “you get I fuck” instead of “go get ass-fucked”. The correct phrase would be “Va te faire enculer”.

I’ve already saved the stories I cared the most for. Both of these stories involved quite a bit of researching and I’ve put quite an effort in the writing style, so I’m happy to know they’re not lost. Hopefully, Lois will find a new host with vertebrate lawyers like AO3.

Yeah or we deal with the things the host does not want, and get back up that way. I think that is the most likely path we will take.

To prevent endless speculation we have decided to lock the “Is RU down” topic until further notice.

RU is currently accessible by trying one of the methods already listed above. Additionally, there is a recently started topic on RU that deals with the accessibility of KB.

Eljorn has kindly agreed to pass along any new information, when and if it is needed, and we will unlock the thread to allow him to post, should the board go down again.
